Re: Fu Manchu in Taipei (drama presentation, May 7, 2005)
The story basically adapts from the Hollywood series television show
script, Fu Manchu. Our script is talking about After the Taiping Heavenly
Kingdom (1851-1864) and the Opium War (1840-1842) in China. During the
time, the country was in turmoil and the people couldn’t live in peace. A
lot of Chinese has been sold to American as piglet and forced to work in
the gold mine and became cheapest labors and been look as lower human race.
Fu Manchu was one of them, but he knew how to speak English and fawn on
those Americans. He became the overseer of the mine, and supervised on
those Chinese labors’ working situations, but he was such a greedy man and
a traitor to his own people.
The story is about Fu Manchu oversee
the Chinese labors in the gold mine and try to stealing the gold.
In the first scene, we will use projector to demonstrate a short movie of
the history. Afterward, A transport ship which made by cardboard moving
into left-hand side of theatre platform, and 2 actors perform the play to
the audience for the starting. Next, 5~10 people act as the Chinese labors
come to the front-stage from behind the cardboard. On the other right-hand
side of stage, there is a little spot for 2 actors play Director and log
keeper as a character who also been look as a narrator of the play in
scene.
The second, third and fourth scenes, we will give the audience a full story
about how Fu Manchu treats his own race, stealing the gold, how’ does
his boss find out that he steals the gold and how he escapes. During
the escaping scene, we perhaps use dry ice in the plastics bags to
demonstrate the smokes for Fu Manchu escaping trick as like ninja.
We will use chair cover with gray cotton cloth which also has gold color
aluminum foil paper stick on it to demonstrate as mines (3~4).
The story is about 15 minutes, and 4 scenes. Each scene is about 3~4
minutes. The total actors are 17 persons includes Fu Manchu, mine boss,
Chinese labors, Rose and Jack, and Fu Manchu assistant and mine boss
assistant. The leading characters are 1 person which is Fu Manchu.
That is basically about our play and what we going to do on the stage.
